CEP 509: Professional Orientation and Ethical Practices

Research an aspect of Federal or State Law that directly impacts counselors, the clients we serve, or the organizations for whom we work. The topic you select should be in an area that you have a desire to learn more, but not one in which you are already well-versed. If you have questions about the appropriateness of the topic you are considering, feel free to consult with the Course Instructor for further guidance.

The paper should be typed, 8 to 10 pages long (doubled-spaced) and in APA format. Be sure to consider/respond to each of the questions posed below as it relates to the topic you have selected.

What to include:

1. Explain how the law impacts (positively & negatively) the counseling process.
2. Include an example to demonstrate your understanding of the relationship between the law and the practice of counseling as related to your area of research. This could be a court case.
3. Provide an example of how the law(s), the governmental regulation(s) applicable codes of ethics, and your own sense of personal morality may come into conflict. Explain how you would reconcile those differences
