Prohibition

Introduction

During the Prohibition Era , from 1920 through 1933, the manufacture, sale and transportation of alcoholic beverages in the United States was illegal under the terms of the Eighteenth Amendment of the Constitution, which was ratified in January 1919.

The Eighteenth Amendment was later repealed by the Twenty-first Amendment in December 1933.
