Open Educational Resources (OER)

Using OER Commons Content in Blackboard

OER Commons is a public digital library of open educational resources, authoring platform and tool for revising and remixing OER. Teaching and learning materials hosted in OER Commons can now be integrated in Blackboard at RIC.

Follow the steps below to create a profile, search for OER and add content to your Blackboard courses.

Step 1: Create an OER Commons Profile

You can now use this profile to curate and save OER, share OER you've authored or use the OER Commons authoring tools.

Step 2: Search for OER

Step 3: Add your Saved OER to your Blackboard Content

  1. In the content area you'd like to add the OER to, use the Build Content menu and select OER Commons.
  2. Edit the Name and Options for visibility and tracking, click Submit.
  3. In the content area click on the name.
  4. If you are logged into OER Commons you will see your saved items, if you have saved them.
If you are not, you can browse for content by clicking My Collections and
  • Selecting a collection,
  • Browsing the materials,
  • Using the Select button to add the material to your course.
