Develop a personal statement of beliefs and be able to support these beliefs in light of opposing viewpoints. Support and understanding of opposing viewpoints should include perspectives from current research and be included in the student's course portfolio.
Your Course Portfolio will contain 2 papers:
(1) Issue Resolutions with Personal Belief Statement (10-pages, total)
- For any five (5) of the topics this semester, write a 2-pages summarizing YOUR dialectic response to the issue. Each paper should have the topic at the top of the first page.
- What are the critical issues involved?
- What does each opposing side believe should happen?
- What is YOUR dialectic response?
- How does YOUR dialectic response fit your beliefs?
(2) Final Reflection
- In a 2-3 page paper (also written in the first person “I”), summarize your learning from the course:
- About educational issues
- About yourself as a student, as a learner, as a classmate
- How you might apply what you have learned to your future courses and years at RIC.
