Student Employment: Borrowing Services

Job Description

Borrowing Services student employees are prominent contact points between the Adams Library and the Rhode Island College community--including students, faculty, staff and the general public. Student employees are expected to provide friendly and professional service while performing basic library services. The responsibilities of the Borrowing Services student employee include check out, check in, and renewing books, library technology items and multimedia using the automated system at the Borrowing Services Desk. In addition, the Borrowing Services student employee would communicate library and borrowing policies, sort returned items for shelving and shelve materials, retrieve items from the library stacks, answer informational questions via telephone or in-person, refer patrons to librarians or staff when appropriate, and participate in the gathering of usage statistics.

Qualifications

  • Customer service skills and an energetic attitude,
  • Ability to push and pull fully loaded book trucks weighing up to 50lbs with minimal assistance,
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow directions,
  • Courteous and effective communication and interpersonal skills.
