The Library Outreach Committee is pleased to announce that Miguel Hoyos and Orli Juarez have been awarded the 2023 Friends of the Adams Library First Year Research Prize.

Miguel Hoyos is the author of "Supporting First-Generation College Students," a research paper completed in ENGL 100 with Professor Sarah Hesson. The selection committee was impressed by how Hoyos used local information and data to build a compelling case for broadening support for first-generation students at Rhode Island College and beyond. Members of the committee described the paper as engaging, informative, and solutions-oriented.

Orli Juarez is the author of “Insomnia: A Sleep-Stealing Disorder,” a research paper completed in PSYC 110H with Professor Jayson Spas. The selection committee described the paper as demonstrating an excellent synthesis of current literature from a variety of publication types in Psychology. Members of the committee described Juarez's literature review as having more zest, readability, and organizational purpose than they usually see at the first-year level.

A reception in their honor will be held in the Adams Library Reinhardt Room from 12PM to 1PM on Wednesday, April 19, 2023. Please join us in celebrating Miguel Hoyos and Orli Juarez for their achievements as researchers!
