Fair Use Guidelines

To comply with Fair Use guidelines, the following restrictions apply:
  • A copy of only one article from any one journal, one periodical, or one newspaper issue
  • A copy of only one chapter or not more than 10% from the whole book or other monograph
  • A copy of only one poem, short story, or essay from a single volume whether or not from a collected work

Repeated use of reproductions from sources not owned by the Adams Library by the same professor for the same course in subsequent semesters requires that Adams Library either purchase the item or purchase permission from the copyright owner to use the item again. In those instances the Reserve staff will attempt to purchase permission via Copyright Clearance Center.
