You will complete a single-subject research study based on an evidence-based intervention which you will implement in your practicum course. For Clinical Mental Health Counseling students, this assignment will be based off your Professional Impact Project (PIP) for CEP 684 Practicum IV. For School Psychology students, this assignment will be based off your Individual Counseling Artifact for CEP 605 School Psychology Practicum course. You will identify a client that is willing to participate and will obtain informed consent for the assignment. The results of this intervention WILL NOT BE PUBLISHED so you will not need to obtain IRB approval. This is solely for education and training purposes.
Part 1: Introduction – Presenting Issues
- Introduce the presenting concern/presenting issue of the participant
- Describe the relevant literature on the presenting issue as they relate to the participant demographics/identities
Part 2: Introduction – Intervention
- Introduce the intervention you selected
- Describe the relevant literature on the intervention. This includes theoretical underpinning of the intervention (i.e., DBT, CBT, ACT, etc.), research on the efficacy of the intervention, and modifications of the intervention, especially as it pertains to the identities held by the participant
Part 3: Method – Single-Subject Design
- Identify and describe the type of single-subject design you plan to implement.
- Provide reasoning for why you selected the specific design.
- Discuss any specific modifications you plan to make (based on development and age of participant, cultural background, etc.) and provide literature supporting this modification.
- Describe the setting for the intervention.
Part 4: Results
- Describe the analysis (quantitative, qualitative, mixed methods) you plan to use to test efficacy of the intervention. For example, using a pre-test, post-test design, 3 or 4-week follow up. How will you know your intervention was successful?
- What was the outcome of the intervention? Was it successful or not?
Part 5: Discussion
- What are the implications of your intervention?
- If your intervention was successful, what are the expected proximal and distal outcomes?
- If your intervention was not successful, what issues arose? What adjustments or modifications do you need to make in order to re-test the intervention?
