Margaret Taylor Burroughs

BlackPast.org, an online reference center makes available a wealth of materials on African American history in one central location on the Internet.

Founded in 1961 by teacher and art historian Dr. Margaret Burroughs and other leading Chicago citizens, the DuSable Museum is one of the few independent institutions of its kind in the United States. Developed to preserve and interpret the experiences and achievements of people of African descent, it is dedicated to the collection, documentation, preservation and study of the history and culture of Africans and African Americans.

The Heritage Gallery was opened in 1961 by Benjamin Horowitz and Charlotte Sherman. It is perhaps the oldest continuously operating gallery in Los Angeles, and has consistently exhibited the finest quality art.

The linocuts on this display were donated by the artist during her visit to Oakton on March 14, 2008.
