Considerations

Accessibility

Accessible design benefits all learners. The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0, developed by the World Wide Web Consortium, provide an international standard that defines accessibility of web-based resources. Consider these when evaluating tools and creating resources.

Licensing and Rights

Consider licensing your work and students work with open licenses. Read more about locating, reusing, and understanding resources with open licenses on our Open Access Policies and Scholarly Communication guide.

Well-being & Privacy

A concern that comes up for both students and instructors is privacy. As you design learning, you'll make decisions about what elements or materials are suited to open environments. The risks and dangers of working openly differ and are uniquely negotiated by each individual. Consider options for alternatives, anonymity, or opting-out of open authoring for learners.
