Library Card

Your RIC ID is your library card throughout the HELIN system, but first you must "activate" your library barcode at Adams Library.  Contact the Circulation Desk [456-8126], and they will assist you. (If you do not have a RIC ID, get one at the Campus Card Office in the Student Union.) Once registered at the Library, you can use the card for:

  • In-person borrowing
  • HELIN "Place Hold" requests (average turn-around time is 3 to 5 working days) and InterLibrary Loan requests (7 to 14 days)
  • Borrowing laptops and iPads from the Course Reserve desk to use within the library on our Wifi network or for one-two weeks out of the library.

Off-Campus (Remote) Access to eResources

  • REMEMBER: you must provide your RIC User ID and Password - as you do for Blackboard and campus email - in order to gain access to databases and other online library resources from off-campus.

HELIN Library Consortium

The HELIN Library Consortium is composed of 7 academic libraries, including the Community College of Rhode Island, Johnson & Wales University, Providence College, Rhode Island College, Roger Williams University, Salve Regina University, and Wheaton College.

Use the Library Catalog to find books, documents, DVDs, and other materials in the library. All the HELIN libraries contribute to this online catalog, so you will see holdings for those libraries as well. An active barcode on your RIC ID card will allow you to borrow books from any HELIN library through the "Place Hold" or "Request Item" functions in the catalog or in person.  Not sure your barcode is active?  Contact the Circulation Department: 456-8126.

Printing, Copying

Photocopying and printing from the Library computers costs 5 cents per page. Scanning on the photocopiers and on the ScanPro microform reader is free.  Campus point value on your RIC ID card can be used for all copying and printing. Use the C-Bord vending machine in the Photocopier, Printing & Microforms Area to add value to your Campus Points account.  Users without a RIC ID may purchase a copying and printing card for a $1.00 with 20 copies on it.  A RIC ID card or a copy card is necessary to use all the copiers and the printing system in the library.
