Communication Resources

This database originated with the acquisition and subsequent merging of two popular databases in the fields of communication and mass media studies -- CommSearch (formerly produced by the National Communication Association (NCA)), and Mass Media Articles Index (formerly produced by Pennsylvania State University). Communication & Mass Media Complete provides indexing and full text articles on all aspects of communication and mass media.

Indexes and abstracts over 11,000 magazines and scholarly journals in all subject areas with over 7,000 in full text. Coverage dates vary.

Education Full Text is a bibliographic database that indexes and abstracts articles from English-language periodicals and books relating to education. Abstracting coverage begins with January 1994. Full-text coverage begins in January 1996.
Education Index Retrospective seamlessly adds more than half a century of coverage with citations to some 850,000 articles, including book reviews, dating back as far as 1929.

On-campus users at Rhode Island College see additional links in the right side column of Google Scholar search results which facilitate access to the library's full text articles. Off-campus, the same library links may be used by clicking on the gear icon in the upper right corner (next to "Sign In"). Select "Scholar Preferences" on the drop down menu, scroll down to "Library Links," then type in the box "Rhode Island College"

RIC currently participates in all 15 JSTOR Arts & Sciences archive collections and the Life Sciences archive collection. Journals in archive collections are always included from volume 1 number 1, and related prior titles, but stop short of current issues. RIC also subscribes to 34 current journals in JSTOR. The entire corpus is full-text searchable, offers search term highlighting, includes high-quality images, and is interlinked by millions of citations and references.

PsycINFO provides access to international literature in psychology and related disciplines, such as psychiatry, education, business, medicine, nursing, pharmacology, law, linguistics, and social work. Nearly all records contain nonevaluative summaries, and all records from 1967 to the present are indexed using the Thesaurus of Psychological Index Terms.

Readers' Guide Retrospective, produced by The H. W. Wilson Company, is a database containing comprehensive indexing of the most popular general-interest periodicals published in the United States and reflects the history of 20th century America. The complete database covers the years 1890 through 1982. ACCESS LIMITED TO 6 SIMULTANEOUS USERS.

SocINDEX offers comprehensive coverage of sociology, social work and criminology & criminal justice. Use this database to find academic resources and author profiles in: demography, ethnic & racial studies, gender studies, marriage & family, political sociology, religion, rural & urban sociology, social development, social psychology, social structure, socio-cultural anthropology, sociological history, sociological research, sociological theory, substance abuse & other addictions, violence and other topics in the social sciences. SocINDEX with Full Text contains full text for hundreds of journals dating back to 1908. This database also includes full text for books, monographs, and conference papers.

The New York Times (1851 to 2019) offers full page and article images with searchable full text back to the first issue. The collection includes digital reproductions providing access to every page from every available issue.

Full-text of locally-written articles from 1829-1981 can be searched, emailed, or downloaded from the Providence Journal on Newsbank.
