In the chart below appear periodicals of political opinion and analysis. They each occupy a position on the political spectrum from ultra right-wing to centrist to socialist and quite a few spots in between. In addition, several go out of their way to note that they are not allied to any of those positions but will publish outstanding political writing from a wide array of political philosophies. And even those magazines which state their editorial position as conservative or liberal will often publish comparison or rebuttal articles to foster debate on more than one side of an issue. So knowing whether a particular ARTICLE or ESSAY is liberal or conservative demands careful examination on the part of the reader.
In the table below, the left column includes links to the "About" or "Mission" page(s) of each publication. But remember: this is the publication describing itself, not an independent assessment of its political stance. That is why the left column also includes the entry numbers from Magazines for Libraries, otherwise known affectionately as "Katz" (though Bill Katz is long retired and the editor is now Cheryl LaGuardia) [REF Z6941 .M23 2017], which evaluates and describes the editorial mission and audience focus of magazines. This will give you an independent analysis of the political leanings of a number of these titles.
The center column provides links that will allow you to search each title using terms which describe the topics and issues in which you are interested.
The right column gives the Call Number of each title for which we continue to receive issues in print as well as notes about major changes in some of these long-standing political publications. They are shelved in the Periodicals Area on Level 3, Adams Library.
